Custom STUCCO solutions

Stucco Siding

Stucco has been a popular look for centuries, but let’s face it, traditional stucco has also been plagued for centuries by cracking exteriors and performance issues stemming from the rigid nature of the system. By combining Old World methods with New World technology, you can get the stucco exterior finish you want with the performance you need. Modern stucco comes in a vast array of styles, colors and materials.

Hard Coat Stucco

Hard-coat stucco systems are the most common and widely used. The hard-coat stucco system is a cement mixture used for siding residential and commercial buildings. The cement is combined with water and inert materials such as sand and lime. Usually, wooden walls are covered with tar-paper and chicken wire or galvanized metal screening. This framework is then covered with the stucco mixture.

Thin Coat Stucco

The thin coat or fiber reinforced stucco (FRS) system is a more recent development. It is used in many types of construction over a wide variety of sheathings and substrates. Generally, it consists of a gray base coat with colored cement stucco or acrylic-based finish coat.

Three Coat Stucco

Three Coat Stucco systems include a waterproof building paper attached to the studs on the house and a wire lathe, which serves as the foundation for the stucco system. The first layer of cement is called the scratch layer because a notched trowel is used and creates a rough surface to which the next layer can bond. The second layer is called the brown coat. After the second layer of cement is applied, the final or color coat is applied.

Synthetic Stucco (EIFS)

Synthetic stucco or Exterior Insulation Finish System (EIFS) is crack-resistant and can be highly detailed. But the biggest benefit of EIFS is the increased insulation it provides to a building. This system consists of foam sheathing covered by a highly modified base coat with fiberglass mesh and an acrylic finish coat.
