Asphalt Shingles

Asphalt shingles are the most widely used roofing material. Asphalt shingles work well in most environmental conditions. However, the quality of asphalt shingles varies greatly, so we make sure to use superior roofing products when replacing or repairing your roof. Laminated shingles are more durable, and provide extra protection from high wind and hail. Asphalt shingles are not as fire resistant as other options.

Metal Roofing

Metal roofing comes in a variety of materials including: aluminum, steel, alloy strips, and copper. Metal roofing is generally easier to install than asphalt and other types of roofing. Metal roofing is lightweight and fire resistant. Most styles are excellent at reflecting the sun’s light, keeping your home cooler in the summer and melting snow faster in the winter.

Slate Roofing

Slate roofing is a specialty roofing system made from natural stone. A slate roof can last more than 100 years if installed properly, but the natural stone shingles are fragile in many ways. You cannot walk on an installed slate roof, so replacing a few broken shingles is very difficult. A slate roof is one of the heaviest and most expensive roofing options.

Concrete and Clay

Concrete and clay roof tiles are very similar and they are the heaviest roofing option. Concrete and clay roofing is heavier than slate and has some of the same drawbacks. You generally cannot walk on a concrete or clay roof. Concrete and clay roofing does well during a wind storm and the tiles are fire resistant. Concrete and clay roofing works best in a dry climate.

Stone-Coated Steel

Stone-coated steel roofing is extremely versatile and durable. Stone-coated steel shingles come in a variety of styles. They can look like clay, slate or asphalt shingles. Stone-coated steel shingles hold up to heavy rains, strong winds, hail damage and they are fire resistant. Stone-coated steel shingles provide the beauty of slate, clay or concrete, without many of the drawbacks.

Cedar Shake

Cedar shake roofing is made from split logs and is moisture and rot resistant. Cedar shake roofing is very expensive and requires a great deal of maintenance. Despite the high cost and upkeep, many people still prefer the look of a cedar shake roof. A cedar shake roof should be inspected annually for moss, algae, insect damage and rot. Also, many insurance companies will no longer insure cedar shake roofs.

flat roofing systems

Flat roofing is one of the most common commercial roofing options, but can also be found in many residential homes. Flat roofs have extreme low slopes and need to be able to withstand pooled water in short durations. There are 3 types of flat roofing systems.

Build-Up Roofing (BUR)

Built-Up Roofing (BUR) is the most common flat roof system. It uses hot tar and gravel to create a moisture barrier. Newer technology uses fiberglass membranes. BUR is very durable and typically lasts 10-15 years, but the finished installation is very heavy.

Modified Bitumen

Modified Bitumen is similar to BUR, but installs as a single layer rolled mineral-based product. The product requires heat to adhere to the surface. Newer technology uses a peel-n-stick method. Modified Bitumen is the most affordable option and it is becoming more popular.

Rubber Membrane (EPDM)

Rubber Membrane (EPDM) is the newest flat roofing technology and is made from rubber that is designed to withstand the sun and other weather. EPDM can be anchored with glue, special screw-down fasteners or covered with stone to hold it down.

Colorado’s insurance claims specialists

Storm Guard is your roofing insurance claim specialist. If you haven’t filed a property damage claim before, it can be a daunting task. It is easy to become overwhelmed with the situation of dealing with insurance adjusters and navigating the process. We have an in-house insurance department that specializes in claims processing and negotiations with insurance companies. We handle all of the red tape and headache.

Many contractors aren’t interested in dealing directly with insurance companies and they simply take what is offered and do the work. As a result, many homeowners don’t get the full benefit they deserve and pay for. We work with all insurance companies, but we are also one of a small number of contractors who are Preferred Adjusters and Contractors for 7 major insurance companies.

Roof Replacement Checklist

You live in Colorado, so there’s a strong possibility you’ll have hail damage sooner than later. Colorado is one of the top states for annual hailstorm damage, so be prepared BEFORE a storm hits. Our roofing contractors have the experience needed to finish your roof restoration project in a professional and timely manner. Here’s a checklist to help you prepare:

Out of Pocket Costs

Review your insurance policy and avoid surprises. Many insurance companies have new policy clauses that homeowners are unaware of, and they include significant deductibles for wind and hail damage. You may have to pay thousands of dollars because you have a different deductible for wind and hail damage than other types of damage.

Time Frame

Many people assume there is at least a one-year time frame to file a claim. However, the actual filing period differs by insurance company and may be shorter. Missing a deadline can seriously complicate your ability to have a claim paid. Storm Guard can help with the paperwork, but don’t wait too long. Contact us now!

The Right Contractor

Don’t wait to choose a local contractor. Do your homework and choose a local contractor NOW so that when the storm chaos begins, you won’t be forced to settle for an inferior company or have to wait for service from a quality company.
